Easy Indian Gravy Recipes You Can Use Everyday

Almost all the Indian sabzis made with gravy. It is always helpful if you have some prepped in advance and ready to use for making your next meal. Please find recipe for the same below.

Tomato-Onion Gravy

Ingredients

  • Garlic – six cloves
  • Ginger – 1/2 inch
  • Green Chilli – two
  • Hing – 1/4 tsp
  • Jeera – 1/2 tsp
  • Onion – five, medium sized, finely chopped
  • Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Power – 1 tsp
  • Tomato – ten, medium sized, puree
  • Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
  • Amchoor Powder – 1/2 tsp

Method

  1. Make a fine paste of ginger, garlic and chilli in mixer grinder.
  2. Heat any neutral oil in a pan.
  3. Once the oil heats up, add hing and jeera and let it crackle.
  4. Once crackling stops, add paste of ginger, garlic and green chilli and stir fry till smell of raw ginger and garlic goes away.
  5. Next, add pureed onions and cook till it becomes brown.
  6. Add turmeric, dhaniya powder and red chilli powder and cook till it turns aromatic.
  7. Add pureed tomato and cook till you can see oil bubbling at the edge of the gravy. Please be patient at this step as it may take some time.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala and amchoor on top and mix.
  9. Let the it cool down completely before transferring it to a storage box and storing in fridge or freezer.

NOTE:

  1. The gravy prepared using quantities mentioned should be enough for two people for two weeks.
  2. The quantity of quantity mentioned is only suggestive and can be adjusted as per your taste.

Palak Gravy

If you want to make something with palak gravy, follow steps below:

  1. Clean spinach leaves and blanch them.
  2. Drain the water
  3. Transfer the leaves to food processor and make gravy.
  4. Let’s say you want to make Palak Paneer, just add spinach gravy and two tablespoons of tomato-onion gravy in some boiling water and once you are happy with consistency, add paneer. Viola! Palak Paneer is ready. Make some chapatis or rice to go with it and enjoy!

You can do this on the weekend and store it in fridge or freezer depending on when you are planning to use it.

Makhani Gravy

Similarly for makhani, add paste of pre soaked cashews and some butter to tomato-onion gravy and you are ready to make Paneer Butter Masala or Veg Makhanwala.
