Day 1: Journal
Journaling doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as just taking a notebook and pouring out thoughts on it. When you are feeling overwhelmed, one of the best things to do is to journal. I have personally found this to be immensely useful every time I found myself juggling too many things.
If journaling isn’t your thing, maybe call up a friend and have a chat. If you have a friend who understands that you need a sounding board more than advise, perfect! Another option is recording your thoughts famously made infamous by Luis Litt on Suits TV series. But you can not deny the fact that it actually helps in clearing your head.

Today is the day to make time for your hobby! Go and take a dance class, pick up your instrument, read a book, go horseback riding, paint a mural. Just sit on the couch in comfortable pyjamas and watch your favourite show eating a bowl of ice cream if it makes you happy. Do what you enjoyed doing as a kid. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, as they say. So go out (or sit in) and have some fun.
Day 5: Take a Walk
I truly believe a simple walk around the block has magical power. There have been numerous occasions when I was troubled by something and going for a walk made it disappear. Well, not exactly but definitely my problem in perspective and it did not seem as big as before the walk.
Day 6: Clean
Now that you are relaxed and rejuvenated, you can get ready to reset by cleaning your space. It doesn’t have to be a big overhaul. Anything that you can accomplish in a day during your free time is good. Here are a few ideas:
- Declutter your wardrobe
- Deep clean your room

Day 7: Family and Friends
Spending some quality time with your loved ones is an essential part of self care. A day out with them brings you joy and support, puts things in perspective and you make memories! In the age of video calls and social media, it is easy to stay connected but face to face meetings are still unmatched. There is something about being able to hug, share a laugh that virtual meetings can not match.
Conclusion
It is important to make time for self care and consciously make effort towards taking care of yourself. Most importantly, you should know you deserve it.
